Abstracting
Abstracting is the art of taking a concept and stripping it down to the bare minimum. It is an idea which is easily recognized, yet hard to achieve.
In my attempt at abstraction, I tried to show that a cell can be broken down into layers, which can be comprised in many different ways. (I've exhibited two of the ways.) They could be flat, or perhaps put in a mobile to create a more three dimensional effect. I was trying to envision a way to let my students get creative with a concept such as this. I came up with the idea of having them create layers to represent the different pieces of the cell, and then they could organize them however they saw fit.
